STUDYING SHAKESPEARE
And the Star-Crossed Lovers' Archetype
STRATFORDIAN OR ANTI-STRATFORDIAN...THAT IS THE QUESTION
Shakespeare is everywhere; literary authors borrow his plots, children’s television rework his ideas in cartoons, sitcoms allude to his works, films adapt his plays to current day and advertisements even use his snappier phrases to sell products. With his far reaching influence and long lasting impact, it is no wonder that any genius who penned such works is both idolized and scrutinized. Fierce debate exists between two factions, Stratfordians and anti-Stratfordians, and Shakespearean academics or simple admirers weighs in on the validity of his authorship. With scarce physical evidence, arguments rely on biographical accounts, secondary insights, and sheer logic. Position I: Evidence purports William Shakespeare is the creator of the volume of works which carry his name. Position II: Evidence purports William Shakespeare should not be given credit for the works that carry his moniker. |

Shakespeare allusions in rap songs; admittedly there is some profanity from the modern artists, but it is interesting to see the contrast between the "gangster" and the literary canon expert.

ROMEO AND JULIET DOWNLOADS
Since there are no royalties, when you purchase a copy of R/J readers are mainly paying for artwork, printing and binding costs. If you would like you digital download, I have found sites. Digital Formats for many different types of e-readers. Amazingly navigable online version -- and links to all plays though I link directly to Romeo and Juliet. Go to its home page for a download from this site and to view the other plays. Folger, this version's publisher, is what I will use in my presentations. |
